Origin Companion · PI Vision tag capture · Beta

Capture every tag. Trend it in seconds.

Every PI Vision display you open contributes its tags to a side panel — and they stay there, across pages and across sessions. When you need a trend, an export, or the path to a tag you loaded weeks ago, it's one click away. No retyping tag paths from memory while the operator waits.

Two tools, one workflow

From the display to the report.

The browser extension captures your tags where you work. Origin Companion for Excel turns them into live PI DataLink reports. Everything stays local — no cloud round-trips, no telemetry.

How it works

Install once. Live in the side panel.

01 · Install & browse

Add the extension in Edge or Chrome, activate with a license key, and use PI Vision as you always do. Every tag your display references lands in the side panel — path, label, units, and display context. Tag references only: no measurement data ever leaves your PI System.

02 · Trend & share

Select any captured tags and open a multi-tag trend in one click — no jumping between displays to remember what something was called. Save named hotlists so the next shift starts where you left off.

03 · Sync to Excel

One click writes PIBytez-Sync.json; Origin Companion for Excel picks it up and builds live PI DataLink reports. Same tags, same workflow — from the display straight into the report.

Questions · Straight answers

Frequently asked.

Does Origin Companion remember my tags after I close the display — or the browser?
Yes — that's the whole point. Every PI Vision display you load contributes its tags to the side panel, and they stay there across pages and across browser sessions until you clear them. The tag you captured three weeks ago is still one click away when the operator calls.
Does any of my data leave the plant?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser — captured tags live in chrome.storage.local on your machine. No cloud, no telemetry, no account. See the security page for the full posture.
What do I need to run it?
Microsoft Edge and PI Vision (developed and tested against PI Vision 3.8.0). For live reports, Origin Companion for Excel pairs with PI DataLink in Excel.
Is it really free?
Free during the beta — beta pricing is beta-only, not a permanent free tier. Final pricing lands at launch, and we'll say so clearly before anything changes.
How do captured tags get into Excel?
One click in the side panel syncs your captured tags to Origin Companion for Excel, which generates live PI DataLink formulas — current values, time series, summaries, and multi-calc columns. Same tags, zero retyping.
Is this the tool that used to be called PI Bytez?
Yes — same tool, new name. PI Bytez became Origin Companion when the Veiled Origin product family unified under the Origin name. Nothing about the product, pricing status, or your captured tags changed.
